Racha

Racha province belongs to Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region. Racha is located in the north-eastern part of western Georgia, in the upper Rioni  river valley, and occupies the territory of  2.854 sq.km. The two main towns in Racha are Ambrolauri, the capital of this region, and Oni, located at about 800 m above the sea level, in 210 km away from Tbilisi.

 

Vine and Wine of Racha

One of the most popular Georgian semi-sweet wines is produced in Racha, near Ambrolauri, It is made of the Alexandreuli and Mudzhuretuli grape varieties cultivated in the Khvanchkara district vineyards. Khvanchkara has a strong bouguet and aroma, and a harmonious velvety taste with a raspberry flavor. Famous, a dark-ruby colour, Khvanchkara wine, for its excellent taste was awarded two gold and four silver medals at international exhibitions.
