Samtskhe-Javakheti

Samtskhe-Javakheti province is located in the southern part of Georgia. The territory of the province is about 6.414sq.km with the population 207.443.  Akhaltsikhe is an administrative center of the province. The province borders with Guria, Imereti, Kartli provinces, Adjara, Armenia and Turkey.

This area before was known as Meskheti and Samtskhe and Javakheti belonged to the principality called Samtskhe-Saatago. In the 9th-10th cc this part of Georgia was one of the most developed economically, politically and culturally and at the beginning of the 12th c, during the reign of David the Builder, was one of the most powerful regions of the country.

At present, Samtskhe-Javakheti consists of six administrative districts: Adigeni, Aspindza, Akhalkalaki, Akhaltsikhe, Borjomi, Ninotsminda and 353 settlements altogether.

Mainly it is an agricultural region: fruit and potato growing as well as animal farming
